Christina Brown kills it each and every single day, HAD to interview so her thoughts could be shared…

What inspires you to blog?

My city! New York is full of such inspiration. Between the amazing street style, the restaurants & nightlife, and the personalities you’ll meet, I never run out of cool things to talk about. Aside from that I’m also very much inspired by the digital world and all the lovely people who live in it and make it interesting.

How would you define your personal style?

You know I get asked this question all the time and I always center around the same theme. I consider myself a balance between uptown sophisticate & downtown boheme. I think the two can co-exist. I make it work (a la Tim Gunn lol)

Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?

I think I put my personal spin on existing trends. I definitely follow them, because I like to keep myself up-to-date and fresh. But I always find a way to make it me. I’m definitely a runway stalker but I don’t let that guide my closet.

Items to get, what are you searching for right now?

  • An amazing mixed-material jacket. I’m thinking something with leather sleeves and either tweed lapels or fur.
  • A really cool tartan cape - I’m big on capes these days.
  • A Cambridge Satchel in FLURO. I friggin love those things. And I absolutely need one before I go to the West Coast for Coachella next year!

Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?

Hmm…I like them all! I don’t wear much red but, that’s not really by choice. It just kinda happened that way.

When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?

Someone who’s fierce in their own right, working hard and making a mark on the world in some way, shape or form.

As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?

I grew into it! When I was a child, I wore a uniform to school lol so that definitely stifled my fashion sense. But I grew to love and appreciate fashion as I grew older and wiser.

Do you participate in your local fashion scene?

Of course! I’m at NYFW every season and I attend events in NY on a regular basis.

How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?

I’m definitely the girl who likes to be stylish but practical. When I’m hopping from my 9-5 to happy hour cocktails or a beauty event, I have to maintain looking cute but still comfortable. No stilettos on the weekdays. I’m strictly a wedge girl from M-F.

What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?

People who go along with the status quo or hop onto an item just because “so and so” says it’s cool. You be the judge of cool, don’t let someone else be that for you.

Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?

Yes! When I was in high school, I founded a group called Sewing & Style (corny I know) but it was all about learning how to sew and incorporating that into being stylish. We even threw a bake sale at school and raised enough money to buy our own sewing machine! Definitely one of my finer accomplishments lol

Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?

Ugh, there are so many! I would say, for wearability I love RACHEL Rachel Roy. Her designs are so practical and yet still feminine and fun. I love the classic chic of a DVF dress. That woman exudes style from her head to her fingertips. As for newcomers, I have some super cool friends who founded a Nigerian-based line called Republic of Foreigner that I absolutely love.

Who are your style icons?

Well if we’re talking icons, I have to say the timeless glamour of Diana Ross. In that same vein, her super chic offspring Tracee Ellis Ross gives me so much life. Solange Knowles - there’s just something about her. And I’d have to go with the ladylike simplicity of Audrey Hepburn.

Your five must-haves as a girl:

  • A killer shoe
  • A classic red lip
  • The perfect black skinny pant
  • A tailored blazer
  • Coconut oil (for my natural hair)
