Aspiring personal trainer Mela Lynn is our latest BGKI, check out her thoughts on her style…

What inspires you to blog?

My blog started as a day to day reminder of things that I have done. It turned into this place where I could put all my photos of myself of my home and of my friends. It truly is my life to share with everyone and anyone.

How would you define your personal style?

Definitely eclectic. I look at getting dressed as a way to wear a different costume everyday.

Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?

I tend to follow trends and than play my own rules with it.

Items to get, what are you searching for right now?

  • Fringe boots
  • Oversized sweaters
  • and of course I’m always searching for that perfect leather jacket.

Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?

Definitely not. I think every color is beautiful.

When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?

“Absolutely killer chick with a big ass smile”

As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?

My mom has said very often that we used to go to the local thrift store every saturday and at about 2 years old I started picking my own clothes. I think its’ safe to say I have always been into clothes.

Do you participate in your local fashion scene?

Definitely not. I live in the bay area (San francisco 15 min. away) there is a huge scene. But it just isn’t me.

How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?

I work as a nanny, so it greatly effects my wardrobe choices. Running after kids all day isn’t easy in heels. I tend to gravitate towards sneakers or boots and a pair of jeans.

What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?

Short sleeve jackets. No point! Oh and kitten heels!

Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?

I wanted to be a fashion designer for the longest time, but I lack the patience and time it takes to create something. Most of my sewing is used towards making very simple mini skirts.

Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?

Betsey Johnson has always been one of my favorite designers. On the complete other hand I absolutely love Calvin Klein, the simplicity is timeless.

Who are your style icons?

Other bloggers!  So many of them with such great style!

Your five must-haves as a girl:

  • Black pumps
  • Straight leg jeans
  • Fitted v-neck tee.
  • A simple sweater top
  • A leather jacket that fits!
