Fajr Muhammad, President of Stylish Thought Media LLC shares the scoop with BGKI about her style…
What inspires you to blog?
Helping other young women through life’s little missteps. Sharing my thoughts on style and life and hopefully inspiring others to share their thoughts and take action on their dreams!
How would you define your personal style?
Retro, quirky and feminine
Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?
I think I play by my own rules, but I’m not so dogmatic to think that trends are the devil. If I love something I wear it!
Items to get, what are you searching for right now?
- A great pair of lace-up booties
- a stylish winter coat
- the perfect black eyeliner
Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?
NO! I love color!
When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?
A young woman who is motivated, positive and learning to trust herself. Not just in her style but in her life. She’s killing it on all levels, mind, body and spirit!
As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?
Growing up my mother owned a boutique and was a seamstress, so I’ve always been surrounded by fashion.
Do you participate in your local fashion scene?
I do! I try to support local boutiques, thrift stores and designers when I can
How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?
Since I work a lot, I have to keep comfort in mind, though my eccentric self would love to parade in 6-inch heels all day, that’s not always the most practical.
What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?
Dressing for other people, instead of wearing what makes you happy
Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?
My mother tried to teach me growing up, but I resisted. I’m kicking myself cause now I dream up outfits and wish I could create them myself.
Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?
I honestly don’t own a lot of designer clothing, though I love Betsy Johnson, Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley and Tracey Reese. All decadently feminine designers
Who are your style icons?
People who dress how they feel without care about what’s trendy or appropriate; Diana Vreeland, Anna Wintour ,Grace Jones, Miss Piggy, Richard Simmons.
Your five must-haves as a girl:
- A great lip color
- perfect pair of flats
- pair of red heels
- a favorite dress style (mine is Aline)
- and a great attitude!
