Black Girl Killing It Feature - Interview #6 - therealkokochanel

How would you define your personal style?

Quirky, bold and nonchalant; these there adjectives pretty much sums up my style.

Do you find that you follow fashion trends or do you play by your own rules?

There’re times where I subconsciously follow trends but when I shop I don’t shop for a specific, I just throw whatever I like in my shopping cart.

Are there any colours you tend to shy away from, and if so why?

Red, brown, and I hate white pants. I don’t know why, I just don’t like the way those colours look on me.  I know it seems weird for me not to like how brown looks on me since I am brown skinned, but just having brown on top of brown is uncomfortable to me. I don’t like white pants because I’m clumsy.  However, I’ve slowly been accepting red into my wardrobe, I have one red blazer.

As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?

I was always a little fashionista people just didn’t understand me, just kidding but I always dressed myself.  I wore mix match prints and patterns which my cousins clowned me about.  I just chose whatever was in-front of me just like I do now.

How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?

I base all my outfits on the season and weather. In the winter I build up a nice sweater collection and wear sweaters with jeans or leggings. Summer, majority of my wardrobe are shorts and dresses.  Spring and Fall can be a bit bipolar down here so it depends on the weather and what mood it puts me in.

Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?

No, there aren’t any designers that I wear but I do have favourite designers that have inspired me and my sewing such as Mara Hoffman.
